Towards Turbulent Stresses Estimates by Special Geometric Adjustment of Two ADCPs

چکیده

The calculation of the turbulent stress matrix using acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP) data remains a challenging problem in study geophysical flows. One ways to overcome is use system two coupled ADCP with pairs beams intersecting at certain depth. When device configuration symmetric horizontal, this setting makes it possible estimate stresses only for small range depths, close depth beam intersection point. To restriction, paper modified proposed, when both devices are symmetrically turned horizontal plane. X axes not collinear such setting, and intersect different which depend on distance between emitters devices’ rotation angle, can be chosen advance. At each these six velocity variances directly calculated, as well correlation those components, correspond beams. As result, an overdetermined equations derived unknown stresses, depths. method was approbated during processing series field obtained lakes open water ice-covered periods. In most cases, calculations lead physically consistent results; particular, turns out positive definite. method’s limitations perspectives its development discussed.

Particle stresses in dilute, polydisperse, two-way coupled turbulent flows.

Direct numerical simulations are performed of turbulent planar Couette flow which are seeded with two-way coupled particles at low volume concentration. Based on an understanding of the development of particle stress (horizontal momentum carried vertically on average by the particle phase) in monodisperse systems at various particle Stokes numbers, several bidisperse and continuously polydisper...

On the dynamics of magnetorotational turbulent stresses

The turbulent stresses that lead to angular momentum transport in accretion discs have often been treated as resulting from an isotropic effective viscosity, related to the pressure through the alpha parametrization of Shakura & Sunyaev. This simple approach may be adequate for the simplest aspects of accretion disc theory, and was necessitated historically by an incomplete understanding of the...

Bundle adjustment using aerial images with two-stage geometric verification

In this paper, a new pipeline of Structure-from-Motion for ground-view images is proposed that uses feature points on an aerial image as references for removing accumulative errors. The challenge here is to design a method for discriminating correct matches from unreliable matches between ground-view images and an aerial image. If we depend on only local image features, it is not possible in pr...

A geometric theory of thermal stresses

In this paper we formulate a geometric theory of thermal stresses. Given a temperature distribution, we associate a Riemannian material manifold to the body, with a metric that explicitly depends on the temperature distribution. A change in temperature corresponds to a change in the material metric. In this sense, a temperature change is a concrete example of the so-called referential evolution...
